Pharmacy Museum Sarajevo | Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Muzej Farmacije Sarajevo
The Museum of Pharmacy in Sarajevo, opened in July 2022, is the first institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina entirely dedicated to the history of pharmacy. Located in the heart of the city at Štrosmajerova 3, the museum offers an immersive journey through the evolution of pharmaceutical science in the region, highlighting its cultural and scientific significance across the centuries. The permanent exhibition is structured around five major historical periods: the medieval era, the Ottoman period, the Austro-Hungarian rule, the time of Yugoslavia, and the modern state. Among the many artifacts on display are historical pharmaceutical tools, documents, books, and photographs. A highlight of the collection is the reconstruction of a traditional Sephardic herbal pharmacy, known as an atarski dućan, which offers a vivid look into historical healing practices. In addition to its core exhibition, the museum regularly hosts thematic displays and educational events, such as “Pharmacy in Film”, which explores how pharmacists and pharmaceutical practices have been represented in cinema.
