MEMBERSHIP
Joining the European Route of Historic Pharmacies and Medicinal Gardens means being part of an international network that works on the enhancement of a memory and cultural European identity, through the valorisation of the common tangible heritage of historical pharmacies and the related intangible heritage of materia medica.

COMMITMENT

Promote the values of democracy and cooperation between populations as the basis for peaceful and civil coexistence,

Conformity with the criteria of all the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe (see Resolution CM/Res(2013)67 of the Council of Europe on rules for the award of ‘Cultural Route of the Council of Europe’ certification),

Actively participate in the scientific and educational activities, international dialogue, and cultural tourism activities of AIS Association and pay the annual fee set by the AIS' General Assembly, and
-
Comply with the Visibility & Communication Charter, ensuring alignment with the Association's principles and guidelines.
ELEGIBILITY CRITERIA
In line with the Resolution CM/Res(2013)67 of the Council of Europe on rules for the award of ‘Cultural Route of the Council of Europe’ certification, the art. 9 of the Statute of the Aromas Itinerarium Salutis Association, established which categories are able to join the Aromas Itinerarium Salutis Association.

Specific criteria of selection of historical pharmacies and medicinal gardens
The European Route of Historic Pharmacies and Medicinal Gardens (AIS) establishes a series of criteria in order to include historic pharmacies and medicinal gardens interested in the route. AIS Scientific Committee applies these criteria for the evaluation of new members.
Criteria for historic pharmacies
Historic pharmacies (as well as pharmacy museums or collections) have to:
- Have tangible heritage* related to the history of pharmacy;
- Have a historical tradition;
- Have tangible heritage* dating back to at least the 20th century
*according to the legislation of the reference country/ international declaration or in process of declaration.
Criteria for medicinal gardens
Medicinal gardens* have to:
- Have a dedicated section to medicinal plants or a herbarium or a museum/collection;
- Develop research activities related to medicinal plants;
- Offer educational/cultural activities related to medicinal plants;
*The term includes medicinal gardens and other gardens connected with Materia Medica (e.g. citrus gardens). They can be part of a larger space (botanical garden, monastic garden, biological stations, rural areas, etc.).
TYPES OF MEMBERSHIP
The art. 9 of the Statute of the Aromas Itinerarium Salutis Association establishes 3 types of member:
Ordinary member

The effective members of the AIS Association, have right to join the General Assembly and to vote.
Benefactor

✗ No vote
✗ No member of the governance
Private or public entities that demonstrate an interest in participating in the activities identified, formulated and implemented by the AIS Association.
Friend
✓ Free membership
✗ No vote
✗ No member of the governance
Private/public organizations or individuals who intend to support AIS Association on a demonstrative and free of charge basis and therefore they are only entitled to information and participation of organised activities.
MEMBERSHIP PROCEDURE
The membership procedure is governed by the guidelines defined in the Call for Membership.
The Call for Membership is currently closed. Applicants may send the Letter of Application (Annex A) at any time to director@aromassalutis.eu and will be contacted when the next Call opens.
