Doade Pharmacy | Beariz, Spain

Botica Doade, Ayuntamiento de Beariz

Doade Pharmacy, located in the village of Beariz in Galicia, Spain, is a rare and well-preserved example of a rural pharmacy from the late 19th century. Founded in 1885 by pharmacist Darío Janeiro, the botica served the local community for decades and still retains its original layout, furnishings, and a remarkable collection of historical medical tools, containers, and documents. Following its closure in the 1960s, the building remained largely intact and has become the focus of a restoration project led by the local municipality in collaboration with the founder’s descendants. The aim is to transform the pharmacy into a cultural space that highlights the history of rural healthcare in Galicia. A new permanent exhibition was inaugurated on October 24, 2024, offering visitors an immersive experience of traditional pharmaceutical practices and their role in everyday life. In addition to in-person visits, which are available by appointment, a virtual tour is also accessible, allowing broader audiences to explore this unique heritage site.
